Some examples of technology that allows us to provide highly accurate exams are: the I-profiler, fundus photography and corneal topography. The I-profiler is one of the most amazing developments in vision correction in the last ten years. The I-Profiler technology works by measuring each eye individually, which allows for more accuracy with the recording or irregularities, enables our optometrist to prescribe bespoke glasses and lenses for each individual eye. This technique significantly improves poor light vision, color perception and night driving. Fundus photography uses a fundus camera to produce a set of photos that help to better detect, record and monitor certain eye conditions such as macular degeneration, detached retina and glaucoma. Corneal topography accurately measures the shape of the front of the eye, helps to measure astigmatism. It’s also helpful with laser vision correction and with contact lens fitting.

Grand Central optical store
The majority of people will need to assist their vision through the use of eyeglasses at some point during their life. At our Grand Central optical store the doctors of Madison Avenue Eye Care realize that there are two critical components of eyewear, the ability to enhance vision as well as its ability to enhance the wearer’s appearance. We see eyeglasses as the perfect partnership of form and function – the right prescription sitting in the perfect looking frame.
At our Grand Central optical store the right pair of glasses starts with the right prescription for corrective lenses. Our doctor will conduct a comprehensive eye exam that will look at the structure of the patient’s eyes, measure their visual acuity and prescribe the appropriate vision correction. The exam will also check for any current or developing eye disease, which because many diseases of the eye have few symptoms cannot be detected in the early stages without an annual eye exam. Our office is equipped with the latest vision diagnostic technology to accurately measure the tiniest of irregularities in the eye. One such technology is the iProfiler, which works by measuring each eye independently of each other, therefore recording irregularities and differences much more accurately and effectively. This innovative technique then allows our doctor to prescribe bespoke glasses and lenses for each eye, thus helping to significantly improve poor-light vision, color perception and night vision problems such as blur.
Because your new eyeglasses are fabricated where the vision correction prescription was developed our Grand Central optical store has complete control of the process to ensure the glasses are exactly what our doctor prescribed. Our practice carries the latest designer frames from many of the best brands including Lafont, Lacoste, Ray-Ban, Legre, Prada, Michael Kors, Martin & Martin, Kate Spade and Modo, Burberry, Roberto Cavalli, Tourneau, Tag Heuer and Oakley among others. Please make an appointment with our office to both see and look better in your new eyeglasses.
Grand Central Optometry
Madison Avenue Eye Care handles Grand Central optometry and a fully stocked optical store with everything you and your family need for good vision and to keep your eyes healthy. Thanks to advances in optical technology these days, patients who have astigmatism can now wear contact lenses. Astigmatism is a condition in which the eyes have a deviation in the curvature and is treatable with corrective lenses. Those with astigmatism can use either contact lenses or glasses.
Prescriptions should be checked at least once a year to make sure that the eyes are still matched to the prescription and that there have been no changes. Irregular curvatures of the eye, such as the case with astigmatism, and irregularities in the retina usually cause myopia or presbyopia. Nearsightedness and farsightedness can also be corrected with eyeglasses and contact lenses at our Grand Central optometry office. Glasses are made from curved pieces of glass that bend light rays as they approach the eye and direct them properly towards the retina which allows for clear vision and good near and far distance. The degree of the lens’s curve changes depending on the strength of the prescription.
When light rays come into focus in front of the retina, far distance is affected, also known as nearsightedness. Those with farsightedness have a problem where the light rays come into focus behind the retina, causing them to have trouble seeing close up objects. Our Grand Central optometry office offers every family the best combination of service, quality and value. Ask us about our current specials and both our discounted budget as well as designer frames. Our staff is on hand to answer any questions you may have regarding our services. We believe all families should have access to quality vision care at an affordable price.

As much as you might enjoy having a great-looking pair of our designer glasses, they won’t be worth very much unless you’re sure that you are getting the right prescription. At Madison Avenue Eye Care, we have carefully cultivated a reputation for offering outstanding service to our valued customers just like you. And that means that from the start of your eye exam until the moment you leave with your new designer glasses, you’re getting expert care and the kind of attention to detail that we’re proud to provide at our Grand Central optical store.
You should have a comprehensive eye exam once per year so that our eye doctor can determine your current vision needs. One key to getting the right prescription is that it should be timely. The perfect pair of eyeglass lenses a year or more ago won’t be of use to you now if your requirements are different. You could end up with eyeglasses that are only providing you adequate vision, instead of outstanding vision. In some situations, you might be better off with no glasses at all than one with an outdated prescription. If you need your corrective lenses to drive, it can even be dangerous to have the wrong prescription. Equally important is that your prescription is filled precisely, which is something you can be sure of at our Grand Central optical store. Be careful. Getting prescriptions for glasses filled somewhere that you’re unfamiliar with can lead to inaccurate results. Unfortunately, you may not realize it. Your glasses can look fine, and you may see okay, at least at first. But you are being cheated out of the sharpest and clearest vision that you are capable of achieving.
Call us to set up an appointment at our Grand Central optical store. You will have an eye exam and then get the right prescription made for you. That’s our guarantee.
Kids eyeglasses in Grand Central
Welcome to Madison Avenue Eye Care. Our professional staff is here to help you and your family find the best eye care and kids eyeglasses in Grand Central. Kids wear eyeglasses either part time or full time, depending on the degree of correction needed. They may need to take them off for school work or need to wear them on a regular basis, depending on their levels of nearsightedness and farsightedness.
Children’s glasses do need to be more sturdy and less fragile than adult glasses. Lens thickness, the type of material used for the frame, and fit all come into play when choosing kids glasses in Grand Central. They should also not be too expensive, in case they get damaged, and should be something that your child finds likeable. Most children’s glasses are bendable and lightweight, making them less likely to break and made from plastic and metal, making them durable. They’re also not as expensive as traditional frames. Metal frames also come with adjustable nose pads so that they can fit the bridge of your child’s nose. Frames should stay in place at all times so that children do not look over the top of the lenses. The frames should fit the bridge comfortably and without any gaps. If there are gaps, the frames can slide off the child’s face.
Some kids eyeglasses in Grand Central come with spring hinges that allow the temples of the frames to flex outward without damage. This is a good choice because of the rough treatment that children’s eyeglasses sometimes go through. Kids are not very careful when they handle their glasses, and spring hinges are flexible, making them great for smaller kids. The lenses on children’s glasses should be made from materials that are impact resistant and are lighter and have good scratch proof coatings as well as UV coatings.
Eye doctor Grand Central
As part of your comprehensive eye exam at Madison Avenue Eye Care, our eye doctor Grand Central expert optometrist and owner, Dr. Alan Kurfirst will measure your intraocular pressure. Intraocular pressure is the eye pressure that is found inside your eyes; elevated eye pressure is often associated with glaucoma.
When you come to our optical practice, part of your eye exam will include a measurement of your eye pressure. This is an extremely fast and painless test that only takes a matter of seconds. If our eye doctor Grand Central finds that your eye pressure is higher than normal, additional tests may be need to be performed to see if you actually do have glaucoma. Elevated pressure inside the eyes is considered to be the most important risk factor for glaucoma. Differences in the pressure between your two eyes has also been associated with certain types of glaucoma, as well as with retinal detachment and iritis. Intraocular pressure can also be higher than normal due to anatomical problems, genetic factors, inflammation of the eye, or even as a side effect from taking certain medications. Intraocular pressure can be increased during glaucoma because when a patient has glaucoma fluids have problems draining from inside the eye, and this causes a fluid built up. It is important that patients have eye exams on a yearly basis so that this important test, and other eye tests can be run. If glaucoma is diagnosed early, it can often be treated with medicated eye drops. However, if glaucoma is not diagnosed and is left to progress, a patient can develop problems to the optic nerve which will hurt their vision. Unfortunately, vision loss to glaucoma cannot be restored, and glaucoma treatment focuses on preventing advancement of the disease.

If you are experiencing headaches when you read for a period of time, you may have astigmatism. Astigmatism is a refractive error which can be diagnosed at our vision practice, Madison Avenue Eye Care. When you come in for a comprehensive eye exam which includes screening for refractive errors, you will be seen by our Midtown optometrist, either Dr. Alan Kurfirst, our Owner and optometrist, or Dr. Paul Kantrowich, our Independent Optometrist.
When you see our Midtown optometrist for a comprehensive eye exam, your eyes will be screened for many different eye diseases and disorders and your visual acuity will be tested. During this part of the eye exam, our eye doctor will determine whether or not you have astigmatism. If you have astigmatism, it is nothing to worry about. It is a common eye condition that can be easily corrected with eyeglasses or contact lenses. You can even have laser surgery which will correct your astigmatism. When a person has astigmatism, it simply means that they have unequal curvatures of the cornea. It can also occur in combination with other refractive errors such as nearsightedness, or farsightedness; or, a patient can simply have astigmatism. However, the bottom line is that astigmatism will cause you to have blurred vision. When a patient has astigmatism, the eye is actually shaped more like a football so that when light enters the eye, it is refracted more by one curve than the other, causing the image to become blurred. Astigmatism can be inherited, or can develop as a person ages and grows. If you have astigmatism, you can have frequent headaches when trying to read, experience fatigue, eye strain, and blurred vision. It is very common for school-aged children to have astigmatism, so they should also come in to see our eye doctor for an eye exam, as well.
